Given the nature of alarmist politicians, and their habit of hastily voting on things they should usually spend more time studying, particularly this whopper of a $700-billion dollar bailout for the Wall Street aristocracy, now we get to watch the theatrics of John McCain today saying he’ll suspend his campaign so he can vote on a decision.
Let’s take a look at just how many other votes McCain missed when the cameras weren’t on him. Since 1991, McCain has missed more votes than any other active Senator – 412 votes. Of course, Obama isn’t much better, having himself missed 295 votes.
Here are my two cents: why don’t we taxpayers permanently cut out the middle men altogether? If we loaned to ourselves, we could more closely monitor how the money was spent. We could tie strict civil & criminal penalties to those who would try to defraud us. We could insure ourselves without fear of a fabricated “supply/demand” scenario that might get us into the same mess all over again.
And let’s not forget that both major party candidates have their own Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac problems, so I have no confidence in either one of these two gents.
